When you read Habeeb Ali’s book the first reflection which pops up in your mind is that Muslims are a part of religious diversity which is God’s unique way of leading us to perfection, to perfect love for Him and each other.

Habeeb Ali poetically describes how God works in mystery and we humans try to solve that mystery. God intervenes with each group within the family of human and the important message from God is the same thing: love Me and one another and teach others to do likewise. Habeeb Ali exactly does it in this book. He also reminds us that love is not in the God game, which has winners and losers and leave others more likely to feel a sense of alienation, conflict, pain, resistance, oppression, and low satisfaction, however, love is about caring, respecting, understanding, admiration and support. He invites us to see how God is happier when God sees our love for one another, even that another is a Muslim. I strongly believe that when you read this book, a beautiful fusion of horizons will happen.

Answer
A good Muslim is a good citizen.
He believes in all Prophets so he respects diversity.
He says salams so he works for peace.
He has to obey Allah so he is law abiding.
He respects personal cleanliness before prayers so he must be hygienic.
He has to keep the mosque clean so he has to subscribe to environmentalism.
She must be properly dressed so she is a moral agent of the State.
She gives zakat so she isn’t a liabiliy to the social services.
She only engages in sex after marriage so she is committed to the family and family values.
She respects her Imam so she has to protect her Leader at all times.
He and she live for God so there can be no conflict with the land of her home for the home is God’s gift

Summer makes it feel harder
But images of millions thirsty
And The Fire with fury
Keeps my days going by without a thunder

Taraweeh in the masaajid is such a miracle
All competing for the finale
While appeals for donations goes unheard
Except the trickle of genorosity and that is well regarded

Iftars and dinners still a pleasure
Where diverse cuisine compete for our hunger
And speeches by redundant thoughts fail to satiate the younger
But where is the spirit in all this madness: for God’s answer?

Maybe it’s the unreasonableness of love
Where the lover and beloved awaits their encounter
While sacrificing everything to make it matter
So at end of today it’s meeting Him and not eating that makes me happier!

Ramadan should not be a month of curtailed desire
It should be a month of keeping promises
So everyday becomes Allah’s desire
And when we meet Him, we can say I kept fast only for your pleasure!
